Clarity : Focus : Results

Have you ever lost sleep in the middle of the night? I know several times in our lives we've all gone through this issue. There are seasons of life that cause us to lose sleep because of disease or pain. There are other times when stress from everyday life create this issue for us. However, if you're like me, the majority of the times, I lose sleep due to lack of clarity.

Imagine this scenario, you are deep asleep, suddenly you wake up and cannot fall asleep again. This is because your brain is running through a long list of things left to do in your day and a long list of ideas circling in your head that occurred to you during the day but that you didn't take action on or got distracted from or didn't write down at the moment.

Your brain wants you to be successful and safe at all times. Whatever you focus on is what it will look to validate for you. It doesn't care if it's positive or negative. Your brain only cares that it is something you have focused on and it will bring up for you whatever it can to validate that idea or opinion via the reticular activating system (RAS). That's why when you're asked to count all things red in a room, you'll really focus on that and will even label "red" things that are red-adjacent. Being there, done that!

So whatever issue you've been thinking about lately is likely to make a special appearance in your dreams as well and when your brain is focused, it will overload your mind with constant thoughts about it.

Experts recommend keeping a journal by your nightstand with a pen so that before you fall asleep you jot down all pending to do's, ideas, issues you've been thinking about so that they won't keep you up or prevent you from falling back asleep.

So next time you wake up in the middle of the night, write down your to do's or whatever is running through your mind and see how much quicker you can return to rest.

Sleep if by far one of the top 3 most important things you can do for your physiology and health. A good 7-8 hours of deep rest every night prevents many health problems like immune deficiencies, high blood pressure, weight gain, depression, fatigue, among others. You cannot make up for a bad night of rest the following night. Once lost, it is lost forever. Dramatic but true.

A good night's rest guarantees a clarity of mind like no other! When you gain clarity of mind and feel refreshed in the morning, you can truly focus and tackle the issues at hand with an improved outlook. Focus then allows you to truly look for solutions and open your mind to multiple options that you couldn't perhaps notice before when your brain was operating under the fog of fatigue.

Focus doesn't only allow you to see more solution options but also the ability to act. Ideas without action are useless. Therefore, once you have a clear game plan produced from focus, then you can act on it and see if it yields the results you were looking for or if you need to adjust your plan. The sooner you act, the sooner you can verify if adjustments are needed in order to achieve your goals.
